We’re itching with anticipation for the Curative 17th Annual LA Sports Awards presented by Mattress Firm! The special night, taking place Tuesday, March 8 on Spectrum SportsNet and Spectrum SportsNet LA at 8pm, is hosted by the LA Sports Council, whose mission is to create positive impact- in the Los Angeles region by utilizing the power of the LA sports industry through year-round programs. In fact, Ready, Set Gold! has been their most impactful program to date.

The show's presenting sponsors, Curative and Mattress Firm, contribute to our passion in sharing effective ways people can maintain good physical health all year round. Curative develops innovative practices for individuals to gain access to healthcare services. Currently, Curative operates a free COVID-19 testing center at Dodger Stadium. Mattress Firm is the pioneer in bringing awareness that “the path to wellness starts with a good night’s sleep,”( John Eck, CEO).

The awards will also have a silent auction with items from nearly every sports team in Los Angeles!! Text LASPORTSAWARDS to 76278, or visit lasportsawards.givesmart.com to bid on a one-of-a-kind item with proceeds going to Ready, Set, Gold!.

Among the awards distributed to commemorate the best in LA Sports in 2021, will be the Ready, Set, Gold! Paralympian of the Year Presented by The Foundation for Global Sports Development and Sidewinder Films. 🥰🥳 Our honoree Paralympian of the Year, Breanna Clark, inspires us with her skill, work ethic and infectious joy.

Breanna has set four records in Paralympic Track and Field and aims to break her own record at the 2024 Olympic Games. She is used to raising the bar for herself and had to learn that at a young age. Brenna’s mother Roslyn, an Olympic runner, noticed developmental differences at 15 months between Breanna and Breanna’s twin brother. However, Breanna excelled in letters and reading, so her disability went undiagnosed for years. At age four, Breanna was diagnosed with Autism.

Breanna didn’t find her footing in team sports until high school, when she tried out for the girls’ track team. She excelled at track because her sensories weren’t overloaded like in other sports. All Breanna had to do was focus on herself, her breath, and her feet and go at her pace. Breanna continued to improve in track until the 2014 the Mt. SAC Relays Conference Championships race, where she tripped before the finish line. Breanna thought she was done with track until a call came asking if she was interested in trying out for the USA's Paralympic team.

In her first race, the 400m, Breanna set a new American record and earned a gold medal. In 2017, she hit the trifecta by winning the World Championships, set a new world record, and earned her second gold medal. She aimed her goal higher to set a new record, which she did In 2018 at the Paralympic National Championships. Breanna championed two major games in 2019 at the Parapan Games and World Championships. In her most recent success at the 2021 Paralympic Games, Breanna won gold at the end and set a new world record for her 400m T20 race!

Breanna shares the impact of the course with our RSG! students all year round. She’s directly worked with 550 students over her four years of being an RSG! mentor. We’re incredibly proud of Breanna and thankful for her passion to give back to So-Cal’s youth!   The Foundation for Global Sports Development and Sidewinder Films has made this award possible and we want to give them a big thank you.
